Following up on the work of Greener Skills, released in March 2010, and the subsequent policy roundtables we convened in partnership with the National Skills Coalition and the Center for Law and Social Policy, COWS designed its fourth annual Good Jobs, Green Jobs workshop for the February 2011 conference in Washington, DC. In response to requests from participants, we are posting the workshop information and presentations below (Van Kleunen and White spoke without PowerPoint slides).
Champions in government, industry, education, and labor have worked hard over the past year to advance federal policy and national practice around green skill standard development and credentialing. This session expanded on the popular Greener Skills workshop at GJGJ 2010, beginning with a progress report on federal and industry efforts to rationalize workforce development and build navigable career pathways in clean energy sectors. National experts then discussed challenges – workability, equity, sustainability – in operationalizing such efforts. Finally, the panel addressed progress toward the broader workforce system reforms required for the effective greening of skill delivery across all sectors.
